The disruption will be huge -- Geocities has been going for so long and is so big that millions of links will be broken on the web, not to speak of the data that will be lost. Some may move their data to new homes, but those who have died or have lost interest won't bother, and thier work will be lost. I’ve been compiling a list of genealogy pages on Geocities, in the hope that it will enable people to have a last look before it closes.
