Reburial expenses in Cameron Parish possibly getting assistance

Some local parish mortuaries and cemeteries may receive some relief for having to rebury those who were unearthed in hurricane Rita in 2005.

Cajundome could receive $1.2M
House OKs repayment for storm shelter expenses

“…The bill also would provide assistance to rebury human remains uncovered during the hurricanes at private or private nonprofit cemeteries.

In Cameron Parish alone, nearly 350 bodies, crypts and caskets had to be reburied after Hurricane Rita at a cost of up to $800 each, Boustany said. FEMA was not authorized to reimburse local mortuaries for the expense of reburying them, he said.”
