German Acadian
Regular meetings of the Society are held on the 4th Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the meeting room of the St. John the Baptist Parish Library, 2920 Highway 51, LaPlace, Louisiana. Any changes in the meeting date or place are listed in the Schedule of Meetings and Special Events. The October meeting is our annual Oktoberfest dinner at the at a location to be announced. No meeting is held in December due to the holidays.

Los Isleños Heritage and Cultural Society

Irish-Italian-Islenos Parade 2008

This year’s celebration will be held on Sunday, March 9th at 1:00 p.m.

This year’s parade will consists of 43 floats and over 1600 total riders, bringing a tremendous boost to St. Bernard Parish’s recovery. It’s the largest parade organization in St. Bernard Parish. It will start at the old Wal-Mart and proceed west to Dr. Meraux Drive, then U-Turn and head back west ending at the old Wal-Mart. Throws in the parade will include Irish and Italian beads as well as the customary produce. This year’s feature will be the “Wooden Nickel” which can be redeemed for 8 ounces of pickle meat at Main’s Market. There will be the Irish-Italian Marching Group which leads as marchers
giving away cane flowers.

Northeast Louisiana Genealogical and Historical Society was formed in August of 2001. This society represents the following parishes of northeast Louisiana: Ouachita, Franklin, Morehouse, Richland, Union, East Carroll,
West Carroll, Jackson, Caldwell, Catahoula, Concordia, LaSalle, Lincoln, Madison and Tensas. The quarterly journal, “Forgotten Louisiana” is published quarterly.

Terrebonne Genealogical Society
The Society meets on the last Saturday of each month at 1 P.M. at the
Terrebonne Parish Library – Main Branch, 151 Civic Center Blvd.
The genealogy collection is now located at the new main branch on Civic Center Drive. From downtown, take Barrow south and turn right as you pass the Civic Center. It is open Monday through Thursday from 9am to 9pm, Friday and Saturday from 9am to 6pm, and Sunday from 2 pm to 6 pm.

St. Tammany Parish Genealogical Society

Starting in January 2008, the regular meetings of the St. Tammany Genealogical Society are to held on the second Saturday of the month from 10:00 AM to approximately Noon in the meeting room of the Covington Branch of the St. Tammany Parish Library. Meetings are normally not held during the summer months of June, July and August. However, an informal social gathering (picnic) is scheduled for June and a field trip to a local library is often scheduled during July or August.
