DNA and your family tree

Cemetery Genealogy News has posted an informative article about The Genographic Project. It stemmed from an article from the state of MISSOURI, High school project traces students’ genetic roots, Steve Giegerich, St. Louis Post-Dispatch, February 17, 2008. The Deseret Morning News has also posted this morning a few concerns with DNA research and your family tree, DNA and the family tree – “Some genetic-testing companies promise more than they can deliver”, by Jason Lee. If your in the dark about DNA research and genealogy these articles may bring you up to date. The Genographic Project has a few issues of its own in Alaska. Alaskan natives refused to participate-cooperate, and I believe, hired a lawyer and posted a website about their concerns. One of their issues with the project was that what would happen to their rights as Natives once the test results came in and were counter to what they believed about their blood lines. Interestingly enough, The Deseret Morning News article addresses similar issues and adds a few more. Here are a few links to the Genographic Project to get you going.
