How to search the USGenWeb or LAGenWeb archives using Google

The archives for Louisiana are located here: It appears that some of the parish archives URL’s still appear active from and some have changed their locations. Be sure to open each parish URL into a new window, or tab in order to view the URL correctly to bookmark it. Otherwise all of your parish bookmarks will appear as, not that you don’t mind going to LAGenWeb! I’m sure that it will take some time before the URL’s are all situated.

It has been noted also that the search engines may or may not work properly at the new URL’s and that they are only currently working through the RootsWeb Ancestry sites. You can always Google the entire site by typing the phrase or surname that you are searching for. For example, I want to search for the surname “Smith” at the archives at You would enter bewteen the quotes (but not using the quotes when searching) “Smith site:” and hit search/enter. The parish search function is not currently active for this type of Google Search. If you would like to search the files use this URL “Smith site:” . This type of search seems to work fine for now and you don’t have to use the RootsWeb Ancestry Search if you don’t want to.
