Washington Parish 1850 Census On-line

Washington Parish, Louisiana 1850 Census is now on-line thanks to Mae and Doug Davis’ transcription efforts. The website offers a search engine for all transcriptions available at the USGenWeb Census Project at the bottom of the page.

There is also a website at the National Archives that offers tips and clues from Census records for genealogy taken from an essay, “Clues in Census Records, 1850-1920,” The Record, Vol. 4, No. 3 (Jan. 1998): 26-27

What I found the most interesting at the website was how to make your own microfilm reader. Check this link out! It is amazing. “…The flashlight is pushed through one of the holes and secured to the side of the milk carton…”
